Future of Nursing Informatics
20, 30 years, what will happen to nursing informatics around the world?
Technology—we can’t deny the fact that
technology played a vast role in the progress and development of the nursing
community. The need for innovative technologies
in healthcare education and service has never been greater. Technology made the life
of nurses and other health professionals a whole lot easier and more convenient.
For quite some time now, many inventions are popping out of different countries
that led to major advancements of the nursing field. Examples are the “call
bells” that can only be pressed if the patient really needs help, and the “Instapan” or the inflatable bedpan, that with just
one press of a button this flat sheeting will inflate to be miniature round
rubber raft suitable to catch all excretory needs and many more. These innovations
have been great help in the nursing field but one of the major advancements
that we can surely say that have a tremendous benefit is NURSING INFORMATICS.
Nursing Informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and
information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and
wisdom in nursing practice. Nursing Informatics supports consumers, patients,
nurses, and other providers in their decisionmaking in all roles and settings.
This support is accomplished through the use of information structures,
information processes, and information technology. With nursing informatics,
the managing of data about the patients being admitted and discharged from the
hospital and even just patients having consultations will be easier and there
will be less error.
Even now that
nursing informatics are just starting to rise, it already made countless
contributions for the progress of the nursing field. How much more after 20 or
30 years.
Nursing
informatics in the future will be more enhanced. There will be more innovations
that will help the nurses in the hospital. Others may say that these programs
and these inventions have negative effect in the nursing profession because the
nurses will become dependent to the technologies and there will be less
man-power in the future because all things found in hospital will become
automated. But these are not the main focus why there is nursing informatics.
In the future
there will be more patient-nurse communication and patient and health
personnel relationship with be strengthen. Instead of having a long time in charting and looking for
information about the patient’s condition, information will be held faster and
the nurse will have enough and even more time for patient care. It will
convenient to the hospital staff and also to the patients as well.
